Last night we went to an amazing concert by The Woodwind Section of the Central Band of the Royal Air Force to experience a wonderful hour full of of winter favourites and festive classics.

The musical director of the orchestra was Sergeant Jono Read & Sergeant Louise Dea.  Amongst the RAF band members we spotted one Pole – Witold Wróbel – Air  Specialist (rank 1)  who played Cor Anglais. 

The event was organised by “The Battle of Britain Bunker” – which also has a permanent display of the history of Polish Airmen and their role in the Battle of Britain –  exhibition which we visited in the summer.

In October Polish Sue paid respects to the Polish Airmen

On the 31 of August 2024 we had the utmost honour to participate in the 63rd Ceremony of homage to Fallen Polish Airmen organised by  The Polish Air Force Memorial Committee.

At the ceremony we had a chance to meet the last surviving member of the Polish Air Force  – 98 years old Marian SŁOMKA. We had utmost pleasure to speak to Mr SŁOMKA, congratulate him on his war achievement’s and wishing him good health.   Born in 30.08.1926 in Kozioł – East Poland (now Belarus ) Marian Słomka was a mechanic serving in RAF Halton. 

The Battle of Britain Bunker was beautifully decorated with Christmas decorations and the Christmas tree decorations boasted emblems of RAF and even Spitfires which were made by the museum’s staff.

Polish Sue wzięła udział w koncercie bożonarodzeniowym orkiestry Royal Air Force zorganizowanym pod skrzydłami Spitfire w Battle of Britain Bunker. 

Wczoraj wieczorem wybraliśmy się na niesamowity koncert sekcji instrumentów dętych drewnianych Central Band of the Royal Air Force, aby przeżyć wspaniałą godzinę pełną zimowych hitów i świątecznych klasyków! 

Dyrektorem muzycznym orkiestry był sierżant Jono Read i sierżant Louise Dea. Wśród członków orkiestry RAF dostrzegliśmy jednego Polaka – Witolda Wróbla – specjalistę lotnictwa (stopień 1), który grał na Cor Anglais (rogu angielskim).

Wydarzenie zostało zorganizowane przez muzeum „The Battle of Britain Bunker” – które ma również stałą wystawę historii polskich lotników i ich roli w Bitwie o Anglię – wystawę, którą odwiedziliśmy latem.

31 sierpnia 2024 roku mieliśmy zaszczyt uczestniczyć w 63. Uroczystości Hołdu Poległym Lotnikom Polskim zorganizowanej przez Komitet Pamięci Sił Powietrznych Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej.

Podczas uroczystości mieliśmy okazję spotkać ostatniego żyjącego członka Polskich Sił Powietrznych – 98-letniego Mariana SŁOMKĘ. Mieliśmy ogromną przyjemność porozmawiać z panem SŁOMKĄ, pogratulować mu osiągnięć wojennych i życzyć mu dobrego zdrowia. Urodzony 30.08.1926 r. w Kozłowie – Wschodnia Polska (obecnie Białoruś) Marian Słomka był mechanikiem służącym w RAF Halton.

Bunker Bitwy o Anglię był pięknie udekorowany ozdobami świątecznymi, a ozdoby choinkowe zawierały emblematy RAF, a nawet Spitfire’y, które zostały wykonane przez pracowników muzeum.
