On October 7, 2024, for the first time, an event co-organized by the Institute of National Remembrance took place in the British Parliament in London. The IPN exhibition “Trails of Hope. Odyssey of Freedom” was presented. The organizers of the ceremony were: the president of the Institute, Dr. Karol Nawrocki, and the member of the British Parliament and co-chair of the cross-party parliamentary group for Poland, Martin John Vickers. One the partners of the exhibition was Polish Sue Association in Great Britain as well as portal Britishpoles. 

The president of the Institute of National Remembrance, Dr. Karol Nawrocki, emphasized that the exhibition presented in the Palace of Westminster, the seat of the British Parliament, was created as part of the five-year international project of the policy of remembrance “Trails of Hope. Odyssey of Freedom”. Its main objective is to commemorate the armed effort of Polish soldiers, fighting shoulder to shoulder with other nations on all fronts of World War II, and the fate of the civilian population evacuated from the USSR with the army of General Anders. He also stressed that the Polish-British alliance gained a completely new dimension after the fall of France in June 1940:

– The defeat of the French ally caused the centre of Polish independence aspirations to shift from the continent to the British Isles. Taking advantage of the invitation of the new British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, the Polish government led by General Władysław Sikorski and 30,000 Polish soldiers evacuated there from France.

The President of the IPN emphasised that Polish-British cooperation took on particular significance even before the outbreak of the war, in July 1939, when Polish cryptologists: Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki and Henryk Zygalski shared with British and French allies the great achievement of breaking the codes of the German Enigma cipher machine. He also referred to the “Ambassador of Polish History” award, the winners of which were: the “Polish Sue Association and the “British Poles” portal.  

– Poles in Great Britain cultivate Polish tradition and culture to this day, as evidenced by the “Ambassador of Polish History” award of the Institute of National Remembrance, presented that evening, awarded for outstanding achievements in popularizing Polish national and cultural heritage. For several post-war decades, Great Britain was still associated with the never-fading hope of Poles to restore freedom to their homeland.

The awards were received by: Iwona Golińska, president of the association, and George Byczyński, editor-in-chief of the portal.

Iwona Golińska cultivates the memory of the role of ORP Błyskawica in the defense of the British coast during World War II. A special highlight of the event in the British Parliament was the presentation of a bell from a Polish destroyer.

7 października 2024 r. po raz pierwszy w Parlamencie Brytyjskim w Londynie odbyło się wydarzenie współorganizowane przez Instytut Pamięci Narodowej. Zaprezentowano wystawę IPN „Szlaki Nadziei. Odyseja Wolności”. Organizatorami uroczystości byli: prezes Instytutu dr Karol Nawrocki oraz poseł Parlamentu Brytyjskiego i współprzewodniczący ponadpartyjnej grupy parlamentarnej ds. Polski Martin John Vickers. Jednym z partnerów wystawy było Stowarzyszenie Polish Sue w Wielkiej Brytanii oraz portal Britishpoles. 

Prezes Instytutu Pamięci Narodowej dr Karol Nawrocki podkreślił, że wystawa prezentowana w Pałacu Westminsterskim, siedzibie Parlamentu Brytyjskiego, powstała w ramach pięcioletniego międzynarodowego projektu polityki pamięci „Szlaki Nadziei. Odyseja Wolności”. Jego głównym celem jest upamiętnienie zbrojnego wysiłku polskich żołnierzy, walczących ramię w ramię z innymi narodami na wszystkich frontach II wojny światowej oraz losu ludności cywilnej ewakuowanej z ZSRR wraz z armią generała Andersa. Podkreślił również, że sojusz polsko-brytyjski zyskał zupełnie nowy wymiar po upadku Francji w czerwcu 1940 r.:

Prezes IPN podkreślił, że współpraca polsko-brytyjska nabrała szczególnego znaczenia jeszcze przed wybuchem wojny, w lipcu 1939 r., kiedy polscy kryptolodzy: Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki i Henryk Zygalski podzielili się z brytyjskimi i francuskimi sojusznikami wielkim osiągnięciem, jakim było złamanie kodów niemieckiej maszyny szyfrującej Enigma. Nawiązał także do nagrody „Ambasadora Historii Polski”, której laureatami zostali: „Polish Sue Association” oraz portal „British Poles”.

– Polacy w Wielkiej Brytanii do dziś pielęgnują polską tradycję i kulturę, czego dowodem jest wręczona tego wieczoru nagroda „Ambasadora Historii Polski” Instytutu Pamięci Narodowej, przyznawana za wybitne osiągnięcia w popularyzowaniu polskiego dziedzictwa narodowego i kulturowego. Przez kilka powojennych dekad Wielka Brytania wciąż wiązała się z niegasnącą nadzieją Polaków na przywrócenie wolności ojczyźnie.

Nagrody odebrali: Iwona Golińska, prezes stowarzyszenia, oraz George Byczyński, redaktor naczelny portalu.

Iwona Golińska pielęgnuje pamięć o roli ORP Błyskawica w obronie brytyjskiego wybrzeża w czasie II wojny światowej. Szczególnym punktem wydarzenia w brytyjskim parlamencie było wręczenie dzwonu z polskiego niszczyciela.
