It is with deep sadness that we learned that Sean Whitelaw passed away this morning. His passing is a great loss not only to his family and friends, but also to the Polish community in Scotland, for whom he was a devoted and loyal friend.

For many years Sean was actively involved in commemorations honouring Polish servicemen who served and sacrificed their lives during the Second World War. He worked closely with the Polish Combatants Group in Scotland and regularly participated in events remembering Polish soldiers and sailors, including gatherings with families of Polish Navy veterans living in Scotland.

Together with his wife Maude, Sean cared for the Polish monument in Prestwick for many years. With great dedication and respect, they ensured that this important memorial remained a place of remembrance for Polish servicemen who served alongside their British allies. Their commitment helped preserve the shared Polish–Scottish wartime heritage and ensured that the memory of those who fought for freedom would continue to be honoured by future generations.

In recognition of their longstanding dedication to the preservation of Polish history and remembrance, Sean and Maude were awarded medals by the Polish Government. These honours reflected the deep gratitude of the Polish nation for their efforts in safeguarding the memory of Polish servicemen in Scotland.

Sean was known for his kindness, quiet dedication and sincere respect for the history of the Polish Armed Forces. His support for Polish commemorative initiatives and his friendship with the Polish community will be remembered with great appreciation.
