King Charles III is scheduled to visit Poland to attend the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau tomorrow – on January 27, 2025.
This significant event will be held at the German Concentration Camp Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum and Memorial, where the King will join Holocaust survivors and dignitaries from over 20 countries to honor the memory of those who suffered during the Holocaust.
Prior to the commemoration, King Charles is expected to meet with Poland’s President Andrzej Duda and engage with members of the local community in Krakow. This visit marks his fifth trip to Poland, with previous visits occurring in 1993, 2002, 2008, and 2010.
The King’s participation underscores his longstanding commitment to Holocaust remembrance and education. As Patron of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust since 2017, he has actively supported initiatives to ensure the atrocities of the Holocaust are never forgotten.
Recently, he hosted a reception at Buckingham Palace to mark Holocaust Memorial Day, where he met with survivors and highlighted educational projects aimed at future generations.
This visit to Auschwitz-Birkenau will be King Charles’s first as monarch, following his initial visit in 2020 when he was the Prince of Wales.
Charles, 76, who is still undergoing treatment for an undisclosed cancer, will travel to Poland along with leaders from around the world.
The royal family has a tradition of commemorating Holocaust Memorial Day.
Prince Charles, now King Charles III, has visited Poland multiple times, with notable visits in 2002, 2008, and 2010. During these trips, he engaged in various official duties and cultural activities.
In June 2002, Prince Charles visited Kraków, marking his first visit to the city since 1993. During this trip, he was warmly received by the local populace and participated in cultural events.
