Warsaw, 2 May 2026 — The President of the Republic of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, has appointed members of the newly established Council for Polonia and Poles Abroad, signalling a renewed strategic approach to engaging with Polish communities worldwide.

The Council is expected to play a key role in addressing a range of pressing issues affecting the Polish diaspora — from safeguarding historical truth and countering disinformation, to strengthening education, identity, and institutional representation abroad.
Responding to Contemporary Challenges
The establishment of the Council comes at a time when Polish communities across Europe are increasingly exposed to challenges including misinformation, social fragmentation, and declining engagement among younger generations.
Strengthening the resilience of Polonia, ensuring access to reliable historical education, and reinforcing connections with Poland are among the Council’s core priorities.

Polish Sue has been actively engaged in these areas, working closely with partners such as the Institute of National Remembrance to deliver educational programmes and public history initiatives in the United Kingdom.
A Platform for Strategic Dialogue
The Council will serve as an advisory body to the President, bringing together community leaders, experts, and practitioners to shape long-term policy towards Polonia.
Its work will focus on:
- countering disinformation targeting diaspora communities
- supporting Polish-language education abroad
- strengthening cultural and historical awareness
- enhancing institutional cooperation between Poland and diaspora organisations

Commenting on her appointment, Iwona Golińska said:
“This Council is being established at a crucial moment. Across Europe, we are witnessing increasing attempts to divide diaspora communities, distort historical narratives, and weaken cultural identity.
Our role must be to respond with responsibility and unity — by strengthening education, promoting credible historical knowledge, and supporting institutions that build lasting ties with Poland.”
She added:
“The experience of organisations such as Polish Sue shows that Polonia is not only a community of memory, but also a community of action. We must ensure that its voice is heard clearly at the highest level of decision-making.”
In a statement shared on social media, Minister Agnieszka Jędrzak underlined the meaning of the newly appointed Council.

The Polish diaspora is a vital part of our national community. The newly appointed Council brings together experienced leaders committed to strengthening ties with Poland, supporting education, and protecting the truth about our history. Together, we are building a stronger, more connected global Polish community.
Strengthening Poland–Diaspora Relations
The appointment on the Day of Polonia and Poles Abroad carries particular symbolic weight, reaffirming the importance of Polish communities as active partners in shaping Poland’s international presence.
The Council is expected to become a key mechanism for dialogue, coordination, and strategic planning — ensuring that the needs and perspectives of Polonia are effectively represented in national policy.
