On Saturday, 11 July 2026, as Poland marks the National Day of Remembrance for Poles – Victims of the Genocide Committed by the OUN and UPA in the Eastern Territories of the Second Polish Republic, Polish Sue invites the Polish community across the United Kingdom, as well as all friends of Poland, to take part in the “Light a Candle of Remembrance” campaign.
This symbolic initiative aims to unite Poles living abroad in paying tribute to the thousands of innocent women, men and children who were murdered during the Volhynia Massacre and other atrocities committed against the Polish civilian population in the Eastern Borderlands of the Second Polish Republic.

A Symbol of Remembrance Beyond Borders
At 9:00 PM (BST), we invite everyone to light a candle in their home, place it in a window or at a local place of remembrance, and observe a moment of silence and prayer for the victims.
This simple yet meaningful gesture is a sign that the memory of those who lost their lives 83 years ago continues to live on—not only in Poland, but also among Polish communities around the world.
Remembering History for Future Generations
In 2025, the Parliament of the Republic of Poland established 11 July as the National Day of Remembrance for Poles – Victims of the Genocide Committed by the OUN and UPA, recognising that the suffering and martyrdom of thousands of Polish citizens deserve lasting remembrance and national commemoration.
Since its founding, Polish Sue has been dedicated to preserving and promoting Polish history in the United Kingdom through educational projects, historical exhibitions, commemorative events and initiatives honouring the heroes and victims of the Second World War.
