“For our family, this is a deeply personal moment of remembrance. We honour those who served, those who gave their lives, and those who fought for freedom alongside their British and Allied comrades” – said Marek Golinski.

The annual Service is attended by national leaders, including the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, as well as representatives of the Armed Forces, veterans and families of those who served.

Westminster Abbey was streaming the Service from 11:00 am (BST).

The Battle of Britain, fought between July and October 1940, was a 112-day struggle for control of Britain’s skies.

It was the first major campaign in history fought primarily through aerial combat and became a decisive moment in the Second World War.

Among those who defended Britain were the brave Polish airmen who fought alongside their British and Allied comrades.

Polish pilots made a significant contribution to the Allied effort, with No. 303 Polish Squadron becoming one of the most successful RAF fighter squadrons during the Battle of Britain.
