The plaque was funded by the airmen’s families: Iwona Golińska, President of Polish Sue and Secretary of the Council for the Polish Diaspora and Poles Abroad, and Elżbieta Gajda, a community activist.

It commemorates:

It is an expression of family remembrance and, at the same time, a tribute to the entire generation of Polish pilots, mechanics, technicians and ground personnel who, after September 1939, continued their service and fight in the West.

One of the most moving moments of the ceremony was the reading of a letter from Minister Agnieszka Jędrzak, Undersecretary of State in the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland. In her address, she emphasised the importance of remembering the Polish airmen, their courage, sacrifice and patriotism, as well as the need to pass their legacy on to future generations.

The airmen’s families and invited guests received the letter as a moving expression of the Republic of Poland’s remembrance of those who fought for their country’s freedom far from their homeland, as well as a symbolic gesture of gratitude to the families who preserve the memory of their loved ones.

The guests paid tribute to Polish airmen by laying flowers at the Airmen’s Monument in Dęblin.

The opportunity to commemorate the airmen in Dęblin — a place of such importance to the history of Polish aviation — was an event of exceptional significance for the family. The plaque’s founders believe that it will remain a lasting testimony to history and a place of reflection for future generations.

They extend their heartfelt thanks to Minister Agnieszka Jędrzak for her remembrance, kindness and beautiful words, as well as to President of the Republic of Poland Karol Nawrocki for remembering the Polish airmen and the entire generation of Poles who fought for freedom beyond the borders of their homeland.
